B Western Rig
Here it is. The rig that started it all. This is the first leather project I completed. Miss Rose still shoots out of this rig, and wore it for the 2008 Indiana state shoot where she placed 3rd!!

Ladies Dress Belt
These belts were worn for semi-formal occasions. The design was meant to be fashionable and functional. These belts offered the extra lower back support for the ride in a buggy or carriage

Custom Ordered Belt
This rig was designed for a shooter that wanted a rig that was black and natural color. The theme for the belt was a Gambler. The coin concho's fit well, and we were able to add his shooting alias by means of a natural colored leather plackard sewn on the belt. Both the buckle and tongue billets are natural leather color along with the base for the bullet strips. This rig also came with belt type leg stays that can be removed at the shooters discretion.

Close up of the right holster from the rig above.
In this close up from the rig above you are able to see much more holster detail. The coin concho was still incorporated though there were some additional touches as well. The holster strap has a basket weave pattern tooled on it, and the holster itself has a unique tooling pattern at the top. The holsters were desinged for the shooter to be able to wear them with another belt if desired. Althought the belt pictured is a drop belt with the holsters fitting through slots in the belt, the holster is easily removed. Instead of the standard method of attaching the holster strap with non-removable rivits, I use either "Chicago Screws" or snaps.

Standard Straight Belt 3"
This rig is the standard straight belt style. It was made for one of the ladies at our club. It was a bit of a challenge in that the pistols are .32 caliber. The rig this was replacing had a decent amount of spots on it for decoration. With the caliber of the pistols the holster pattern had to be considerably smaller then a standard size single action. In addition, she wanted the holster cut down to expose the hole trigger guard and allow for a quicker draw. The belt came out so well without adding spots, I increased the back flap of the holster and added the spots on it. See the picture below.

 |
Custom Molded Holster - Mahogany
This holster is custom all the way though it does not appear so initially. The first challenge was the .32 caliber pistol frame. Considerably smaller then a standard frame. The shooter wanted to have decorative spots incorporated, and have the trigger guard totally exposed for a quicker draw. The pattern includes a larger back flap to incorporate the decorative spots as well as a fully exposed trigger guard. There is the addition of the concho and functional holster belt and gold buckle instead of strap. This holster again is fully lined with calf skin, and even incorporates a touch of decorative tooling near the bottom. There is much on this set of holsters and one main reason is the belt that was made at the same time. I try to view each item separatrly first and then as part of a rig. When the belt was in process it became clear that less was more. That is the belt stood out on it's own with just border tooling and a tooling design in the center. Any added decorative items would have taken away from the simple beauty of the belt alone. You can see the belt above with both holsters included.

Standard Holsters - Dark Brown
Pictured here is a set of standard holsters with matching spur straps. These were made at a shooters request and to his design. They were made fairly early on, but do have some interesting designs. You can see the barbed wire and longhorn skull tooling on both the holsters and the spur straps. In addition the lower portion of each holster features a basket weave design. On the holster strap is a rattle snake lying in the grass. This was a fun set to make, trying to incorporate all the shooter requested.

 |
Custom Molded Holster - Black
This is a holster for a complete rig I finished recently. This set of holsters were made, formed to the shooters pistols. They are lined in calf skin, the best lining material available. The calf skin leather is super soft yet very durable. The lining will not loose it's color but will begin to show "scuff" marks that only add character to their look. Again, the popular barbed wire tooling was used, and the shooter chose the "Smoking Gun" concho for each holster.

Right Holster Miss Rose's 2nd B-Western Rig
This is the finished strong side holster for Miss Rose's 2nd B-Western rig. She wanted a Mahogany color rig with a red white and blue theme. It had to have roses on it for her!!! The top rose on this holster is actually carved instead of tooled. I am venturing into leather carving and Miss Rose gets to be part of the process!!

Custom Holster for .380 Semi-Auto
This was a holster I made for one of the pards I shoot with. Although the .380 is a smaller frame semi-auto the holster came out well.

"Wild Bunch" Holster
This is the first "proto-type" of Hogleg Leather's Wild Buch Holster. This holster features a basket weave pattern on the face of the holster with a small sea shell border tool design. The holster is lined with calf skin and has been dyed a light brown color. The back flap is wide at the place where it rids agains the hip to keep it in place. This holster has yet to be used at a match. Once I get the input of how it functions, modifications may be made. Check back to see if it changes and how!!

.45 Auto Belt Holster
This is a belt slide holster designed to allow your side arm to rest just ablove you belt in the small of the back. This desing will accommodate up to a 1 1/2" belt. This particular hoster is for a left side draw. It features the very popular barbed wire design, though this design is carved not stamped. The side arm sits at the perfect angle for qucik and easy access and eliminates the need for any form of concealment other then a "T" - shirt.

Derringer Holster Form Fit - BLack
This was a fun project to make. I picked up this derringer used because every cowboy needs a derringer, right? The holster strap simply folds over your belt and snaps in place. The small holster added to the strap is actually formed to my derringer. There is even a small card suit concho added below the holster, well..... because I wanted too!! There is only space enough for a small concho, 3/8" - 1/2". The derringer is held in place by a latigo strip around the hammer. I have to fess up here. When I finished this "spur of the moment" project I realized I had made it a left side holster!! As I doubt I will be unholstering the derringer for any timed SASS events, the left works just fine for me. If you decide to get one, please specify right or left!!

Oval Badge Holder - Dark Brown
Badge holders can be made in a variety of styles. The 2 most popular are the oval, pictured here, and the rectangle. This oval badge holder was made for the Indiana state shoot, the "Hoosier Ambush", which was hosted by our local club in 2008. Our club, Cutter's Raiders shoot at Paradise Pass in Etna Green Indiana

Standard Rectangle Badge Holder - Mahogany
This badge holder is the one I made for Miss Rose. It is the standard rectangle shape, though there are some decorative additions. As you can see the tooling is a little more involved and the badge is surrounded by a lace pattern. If I have to tell you her club badge is not included you may be on the wrong web site!!!

Bullet Slide - Black
This is the only picture I have of a bullet slide. This is my personal slide and I apologize for the quality of the picture. This slide is for .45 Long Colt, the caliber I shoot. My set of shooting leather is designed around my Cherokee heritage. The words "Tsa-La-Gi" you see tooled on the slide is Cherokee for the word "Cherokee". I am personally not a fan of bullet loops on my belt. The only place they fit on a belt is behind the pistol(s). I find it much easier, if I have to load on the clock, to use a bullet slide. This allows me to put it anywhere on the belt I want, making the exrtra rounds much easirer to find.

Custom Knife Sheath - Dark Brown
This is a recently completed knife sheath. This shooter is getting a complete set of leather. A 2 gun rig, badge holder, knife sheath and spur straps. Each item will be made to incorporate items that identify them as a set, yet made so they will also stand alone if worn with other leather. The knife sheath and spur straps are the only items completed to this point. You can look forward to the addition of pictures of the other items as they are completed. This shooter requested many decrorative spots, and you can see them incorporated along with the tooling. The strap across the front folds around the sheath and attaches to the back strap, much like a holster. The strap was used to incorporate the requested long horn skull tooling. The spots are a "gun metal" color, while the spots on the spur straps below are nickel.
|
|
 |
Spur Straps - Dark Brown
These are the spur straps for the shooter mentioned above with the knife sheath. This shooter had a spur strap pattern already in mind, but wanted the addition of "bling", that is brightly colored spots. The spur strap pattern is near, but not identical to, what the shooter had in mind. You can see the basket weave tooling along with the requested spots in nickel color. These straps offer 3 adjustment positions. They are in the middle position in this picture. Again, as soon as the other items for this shooter are completed I will add those pictures to the site.

Shooter's Cuffs - Black
This is a picture of my pair shooter's cuffs. I can't really tell you why I added all the spots and concho's other then I wanted to when I was making them. They also have my shooting alias "Hogleg Charlie" tooled on them. The pattern is pretty straight forward. The top of the cuff is laced with the "Mexican Basket Weave" design, and snaps are utilized for securing around the wrist. I will own up to a change I incorporated after making these. I used 9 oz. leather in the construction of my cuffs, and since concho's were added I lined them as well. With the weight of the 9 oz. leather plus the lining they are very stiff. I still wear them, and you can see me doing so in other pictures on this site. I have used 5 - 6 oz. leather since for all other cuffs. With the lighter leather they are no where near as stiff, and much more comfortable to wear. My mistake on my cuffs is a definate advantage for yours!!!

Mexican Basket Weave Instructions
For those who purchase Shooter's Cuffs these instructions will be included. I added them here so you could see how the top of the cuffs are laced should you lose your set of instructions or are just curious.

Cherokee Rig
This is the second rig I made and is still my personal shooter. Although the pictures are not the best quality, they do demonstrate some of the concepts I like to use when making a set of leather. You can see the natural lining leather as opposed to it being dyed. There are a number of items that "tie" all the different items together. Beyond the tooling you can see the Native American coin concho just above the holster. The back side of the holster can be seen as well. You can see the holster belt is attached to the back strap with "Chicago" screws. This allows for easy removal should I want or need to take the holster off.
|
|
 |
Cherokee Rig
This is the center portion from the rear of the belt. As part of my heritage is Native American, specifically Cherokee, I tooled a part of my alias in Cherokee. "Hogleg" is in Cherokee but as the sir name does not translate it is in English with a distinctive Native American symbol on either side.
|
|
 |
Cherokee Rig
This is a close up of one holsters. You can see the "spear" tooling on the holster. The arrowhead that tops the spear is a consistent design on all the items.

Though this set of cuffs is pictured above, this view allows you to see that along with the dollar concho, the Native American coin concho has been incorporated as well.

Bullet Slide
Again, this bullet slide is pictured above, but for the purpose of showing a "set" of leather items I opted to include it here. You can see the arrow head tooling, and the phrase "Tsa-la-Gi" which is the word "Cherokee" in Cherokee.

C. C. Top Wild Bunch Rig
This rig was made for C. C. Top from Cutter's Raiders in Etna Green Indiana. C. C. wanted a custom rig for shooting "Wild Bunch". The Holster is pictures above during the molding process. The belt and slides were just finished to complete the rig. As with all Hogleg Leather belts, it is constructed with 9 oz. Leather. This belt is lined. When I line a belt it is ALWAYS hand stitched to ensure durability. In addition it is my preference and reccomendation to leave the lining leather the natural color. This allows for two (2) things. First, the shooter does not end up with leather dye on their clothes the first time they wear the belt!!! Second, the natural leather develops a beautiful "Patina" over time that adds wonderful character to the rig. There are two (2) clip slides for this rig so a Wild Bunch match could be shot "Josey Wales" style - (Now that sounds FUN!!!!)
|
|
 |
C. C. Top Wild Bunch Clip Slide
The clip slides are made from 9 oz. leather as well. The leather that holds the clips is exactly 2" to meet the Wild Bunch regulations. The slides are also lined. This particular slide has been tooled and personalized with a 3/4" scroll "C" in front of each clip spot. These will fit a belt up to 2 1/2 inches, but the pattern can be modified to fit wider belts.
|
|
 |
12 Guage Shotgun SLide
This is a 6 position (3 groups of 2) 12 guage shot gun slide. The slides can be made to fit any belt width. You can see the stop strip just under the shells, though the loops are tight enough to allow the shells to be moved higher for a stage for easier extraction. As with most items, the slides are lined.
